Hardness Value & Firmness Rating Test Guide

Mattresses play a crucial role in determining comfort and sleep quality. To ensure that mattresses meet industry standards, manufacturers use advanced testing equipment to assess various performance parameters. The Mattress Comprehensive Performance Testing Machine GT-LA08B is one such machine designed to test multiple aspects of mattress quality. In this article, we will explore the Hardness Value & Firmness Rating Test performed using the GT-LA08B and provide a step-by-step guide on how to operate the machine.

Introduction to Mattress Comprehensive Performance Testing Machine GT-LA08B
1. Height Loss Test:
2. Durability Test:use.
3. Hardness Value & Firmness Rating Test:

What Are Hardness and Firmness?
The hardness value is determined from load/deflection measurement which is obtained by pressing a load pad into the test unit and measuring the associated value of indentation and force simultaneously. And the firmness rating is used to express the subjective assessment by persons, it is determined from the hardness value upon results from empirical studies.

Key Objectives of the Hardness & Firmness Test:
To conduct the hardness and firmness test using the Mattress Height loss testing machine , follow these detailed steps:

1. Set Up the Machine
Begin by ensuring the mattress is properly aligned on the testing platform. The mattress should be centrally placed with no obstructions around it.

2. Enter Hardness Mode
Click on the "Hardness Mode" button on the control panel to enter the hardness testing section of the Mattress Height loss testing machine .

3. Reset the Machine
Before beginning the test, reset the machine to its default position:
Click the “RST” (Reset) button. The Mattress Height loss testing machine  will automatically return the loading pad to the center position, ensuring that the testing starts from a neutral baseline.

4. Clear Previous Data
If any previous test data exists, clear it to avoid inaccurate results:
Click the “Delete Data” button to erase any stored data from prior tests.

5. Position the Load Pad
Next, position the load pad directly above the area of the mattress where the hardness test will be conducted. This ensures accurate results by targeting specific sections of the mattress:
Use the “Slider Left” and “Slider Right” buttons to move the load pad horizontally across the mattress to the desired test location.
Once in position, input the appropriate Test Force value. This force defines the pressure applied by the load pad during the test.

6. Start the Test
Click “START” to begin the test.
The machine will apply the preset force to the mattress and measure the resulting indentation. The test may include multiple cycles depending on the requirements, and the machine will rotate to conduct a Hardness Durability Test on Station 1 if needed.

7. Analyze the Results
After completing the hardness test, the machine will automatically stop once the predefined number of test cycles is reached:
The data will show the load/deflection measurements and corresponding hardness values.

To further analyze the data:
Click “Data Analysis” to generate a detailed breakdown of the results.

8. Export the Test Results
Click “Export” to download the data in Excel format. This exported file can be used for generating detailed reports or for comparing multiple mattress test results.
